FREEZE! Letter to ALL

October 20, 2021

Dear Patron,

Unfortunately, we at CalCap Black Box Theatre, find ourselves in a situation that is out of our control.

We have had to cancel Freeze!

The reason is that the writer, Richard Broadhurst who was slated to direct, suddenly told us he no longer wanted to direct but told us he had found another Director to take his place, Anthony D'Juan. This pull-out was very sudden and with no advance warning but we agreed to switch Directors.

Anthony joined the production, rehearsals were planned, Tom Sizemore came to Sacramento to begin rehearsals and suddenly and with no logical or reasonable explanation, Anthony D'Jaun sent us a text to tell us he no longer wanted to be involved with the project. I tried to call him but he has ignored my calls and does not return calls so we don't really know why he has made this decision as he won't tell us.

This then caused the other actor in Freeze, Tory Scroggins to also pull out.

Tom Sizemore was already here at his hotel in Rancho Cordova ready to begin rehearsals but of course, with no director and no co-actor, we had to send him home and he was truly disappointed as were we here at the theatre.

This has left us in a very difficult situation as money had been spent to build sets, purchase props, advertising, payment to Tom Sizemore, etc. etc., but we have no alternative but to cancel the show.

If you have purchased tickets for this show, we will of course give you a full refund.

As so much time has passed since tickets were purchased on our tickets site, we have to issue refunds via a check.

Please email your purchase confirmation to clago@calcaparts.org please include who you'd like the check made out to and an address to mail the check. We can also action refunds via PayPal which will be quicker. In this instance, we will need the email linked to your PayPal account.

Again, we sincerely apologize for this situation. I have to say on a personal note that I do not understand how two directors, who had committed to directing this show, could so arbitrarily and with no discussion, pull out, especially when one of these individuals is the actual writer of the play.

I guess we live and learn.

With regret and apologies,

Charles Lago

Artistic Director, CalCap Black Box Theatre.
